Class Descriptions

Under 8 Child & Parent Class

Ages 4-6 (born 2013+)  (max:  10 students)

Tuesdays 5-5:45pm 

This 45-minute class offers an opportunity for children to work together with their parent(s) to develop basic movement patterns and general fitness.  Participants will be introduced to Judo etiquette and sport-specific skills through judo-related games.  Focus will be on FUN & FITNESS.

Fees:  $150.00 + Judogi

Youth Beginner

Ages 7-13 (Born 2007-2012)   (max:  20 students)
Tuesday 6:00-7:00pm
Thursday 6:00-7:00pm

This 60-minute class offers judoka (students) the opportunity to develop general awareness of the body and general fitness through judo-specific activities and games .  Introduction to Judo etiquette, rules and concept of fair play. There is a focus on technical development (as per Judo Canada Kyu Syllabus) and an introduction to modified competition.

Fees:
Tuesday ONLY:  $150.00 + Judogi
Thursday ONLY:   $150.00 + Judogi
BOTH nights:   $200.00 + Judogi

Youth Advanced

Ages 7-13 (Born 2007-2012)   (max:  20 students)
Tuesday 6:00-7:00pm
Thursday 6:00-7:00pm

This 60-minute class, 2 times per week, offers colored belt judoka the opportunity continue their development of body awareness and general fitness through judo-specific activities and games .  Judo etiquette, rules and concept of fair play are reinforced as they work towards increased technical development (as per Judo Canada Kyu Syllabus).

Fees:  $200.00 + Judogi

Advanced Teen & Adult

Ages 13+  (2006 and earlier) + U14 by invitation
Tuesday 7:00-9:00pm
Thursday 7:00-9:00pm


This 2 hour class, 2-times per week, begins to increase exposure to formal competition.  Emphasis on general fitness development, with concentration on 'agility, balance, coordination and speed.  There is more emphasis on the 'perfection' of technique (as per Judo Canada Kyu Syllabus) and an introduction to 'Kata's'.

Fees:  $200.00 + Judogi

Recreational Teen & Adult

Ages 13+  (2006 and earlier)
Tuesday 6:00-7:30pm
Thursday 6:00-7:30pm

This 90 minute class, 2 times per week, will introduce you to the fundamentals of Judo. This class is designed for recreational adults and beginners without any prior Judo experience. These classes offer adults the opportunity to work at their own pace as they are introduced to the basics of falling techniques, footwork and basics of posture. The emphasis is not competition, but the chance to get fit, meet new people, move up the grade system with the aim of achieving their black belt, and have fun. The ultimate goal is 'perfection' of techniques (as per Judo Canada Kyu Syllabus ).

Kata

**Senior Judoka must be yellow belt or higher

**Junior Judoka must be green belt or higher or invited/recommended by Sensei's**


Kata, which literally means "form" is practiced following a formal system of prearranged exercise.  Through Kata practice, trainees learn the principles of techniques.   In the Kodokan, the following eight Katas are mainly adopted:

  • Ju-no-Kata (Forms of Gentleness & Flexibility) ...

  • Itsutsu-no-Kata (Forms of "Five")
  • Koshiki-no-Kata (Forms of Classics)
  • Seiryoku-Zenyo-Kokumin-Taiiku (Forms of Maximum- Efficiency National physical education)
